Connected switches for greater flexibility in home automation installations.

For Ricq Architects, the promotion of sustainable and responsible architecture goes hand in hand with optimal building comfort. In this respect, our collaboration with the R2D2 workshop allows for greater flexibility in home automation installations through the use of EnOcean switches.

A new generation of switches.

The role of EnOcean switches is to increase the flexibility of control of the connected home environment in terms of heating and lighting, whether natural or artificial light. These new generation controls are energy independent, wireless and battery free. They can be moved at will, and have the great advantage of being able to be installed anywhere in the building, without any constraint linked to its electrical installation, to control roller shutters, lighting or thermal regulation systems.

An innovative operating principle.

EnOcean switches are 100% autonomous. Indeed, it is the mechanical energy produced by the user when he operates the control, after its conversion into electricity via a tiny induction coil, that is used to emit a signal in the form of a radio wave. This is then collected by a black box, a programmable controller connected to the electrical panel, which is the “brain” of the building’s EnOcean network. After transcription of the received signal, it is then transmitted to the objects to be controlled, for example to modify the inclination of the slats of a blind, to activate certain lighting scenarios or a radiator.

Practically.

Compliant with European safety standards, EnOcean switches have an indoor range of 30 meters. For even more comfort, they offer a perfect touch sensation, identical to that felt when using traditional switches. There are different types, depending on the number of buttons (2 or 4), their marking, or the number of associated communication channels. Their installation is very simple, the fixing being done thanks to screws or adhesive strips, a system which reduces in a consequent way the work otherwise necessary for the installation of a traditional switch.

A guarantee of flexibility for manufacturers and users.

Professionals know that when a building is being constructed, the location of the switches is an essential point, often discussed at length with the future users. In a bedroom, for example, the size of the bed, its shape, and its location are among the factors that guide the choice of the most ergonomic positioning of the switches governing the various lights. By its operating principle, the EnOcean system makes it possible to free oneself from all these constraints. Furthermore, beyond the construction stage, it allows the user to serenely consider a future reorganization of the furniture and room layout in a home, without worrying about the location of the switches and their accessibility. Indeed, thanks to EnOcean, the interior organization of buildings is no longer dependent on their electrical design. By using these innovative switches, the design becomes flexible and adaptable to the user’s needs.
