le dock - detached villa
Founex
Situated just a hundred meters from the shores of Lake Geneva and the port of Founex, this atypical villa draws its history from the waters of the lake. The owners, who were boat maintenance professionals, had a hangar in the villa zone.

They wanted to combine the practical with the pleasurable, by transforming their hangar into a home, thus uniting their place of work with their place of life. The architectural challenge? To insert a villa into the pre-existing volumes of the hangar and offer a warm, intimate space, while preserving the original industrial character of the premises.
Le Dock offers a beautiful, sunny living space thanks to its fully glazed 40 m² outdoor patio. Designed within the original metal framework, it adds a welcome dimension of intimacy. On the Jura side, a grassy garden with trees has been laid out to replace the original asphalt and soften the industrial environment.
The industrial character of the site is also reflected in the materials used: a primary metal framework is lined with a wooden frame. Brushed stainless steel, exposed concrete and liquid screeds with sanded finishes harmoniously complete the ensemble.
With a surface area of 260 m², the villa retains its original size, but now comprises 7 rooms on 2 levels - the living areas on the first floor and the bedrooms on the second floor.
This layout opens up the rooms on the first floor into a continuous unitary surface, from the TV lounge to the kitchen, which also opens onto the patio. The external joinery, with its unusual dimensions, provides plenty of light from the patio, while opening up personal spaces such as the bedrooms.
